ASUS Republic of Gamers has introduced the ROG Crosshair 2006, a special-edition AM5 motherboard created to mark 20 years of the ROG brand. Based on the existing ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero platform, the board adopts visual elements inspired by the original ROG Crosshair motherboard released in 2006.
The motherboard combines current-generation Ryzen platform support with a retro-inspired design that includes copper accents, classic ROG styling cues, and an integrated OLED display.
Retro-Inspired Design Meets Modern AM5 Hardware
The ROG Crosshair 2006 uses AMD’s X870E chipset and targets enthusiasts building high-end Ryzen 9000 systems. ASUS says the board features a 20+2+2 phase VRM design with 110A power stages, alongside large heatsinks and premium power delivery components intended for overclocking and sustained workloads.
Visually, the motherboard differs significantly from most recent ROG models. ASUS has used a copper-focused color scheme with blue and white accents designed to resemble the appearance of the original Crosshair motherboard from the mid-2000s era.
A 2-inch OLED display integrated into the primary M.2 heatsink can show system information such as CPU frequency, temperatures, and fan speeds. Users can also upload custom graphics and animations.
DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 Support
ASUS is positioning the ROG Crosshair 2006 as a flagship AM5 motherboard with support for high-speed DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 hardware.
The company highlights several memory-focused design elements, including:
- NitroPath DRAM Technology
- PCB back drilling
- Server-grade low-etch PCB process
- ASUS AEMP memory tuning
Expansion options include two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots for graphics cards and five total M.2 slots, including support for PCIe 5.0 SSDs.
The motherboard also includes ASUS’ latest tool-less SSD installation features such as:
- M.2 Q-Latch
- M.2 Q-Release
- M.2 Q-Slide
These additions are intended to simplify storage installation and reduce the need for screws during assembly.
Connectivity and Cooling Features
Networking options include Wi-Fi 7 alongside both 10GbE and 5GbE Ethernet connectivity. The motherboard also includes dual USB4 ports and front-panel USB Type-C support with up to 60W Quick Charge 4+ capability.
ASUS has also included its AIO Q-Connector system, which allows compatible liquid coolers to connect without visible cabling between the motherboard and radiator assembly. The company says support for the feature will initially arrive through the ROG Strix LC IV series coolers.
Technical Relevance
The ROG Crosshair 2006 combines a retro-inspired visual design with the feature set expected from a modern flagship AM5 motherboard.
While the underlying platform closely resembles ASUS’ existing premium X870E offerings, the design approach may appeal to long-time PC enthusiasts familiar with early Republic of Gamers hardware.
The board also reflects how premium enthusiast motherboards increasingly focus on build presentation, integrated displays, simplified installation mechanisms, and cleaner cable management alongside raw performance features.
Pricing and Availability
ASUS has not yet announced pricing or regional availability for the ROG Crosshair 2006. The company says further details will be shared through regional ASUS representatives at a later date.
