Square Enix is all set to release Rise Of The Tomb Raider for PC on 28th January, revealing the minimum requirements for the title as well and it seems that this game will feature NVIDIA’s VXAO for the first time in Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC.

Nvidia themselves are not ready to reveal more information regarding the matter.

VXAO is an unreleased technology which was mistakenly listed in select news releases. We will provide details as soon as they’re available.

VXAO is a Voxel Based Ambient Occlusion technology and is 3 times cheaper than full fledge Global Illumination(GI)

A voxel represents a value on a regular grid in three-dimensional space.

Voxel Based Ambient Occlusion also provides a more stable effect throughout the rendered world.

The results of SSAO are not always correct. For example, when geometry comes near the screen edge or when a far objects is close to a near object in the screen space. Voxel based ambient occlusion has no such problem.

Rise Of The Tomb Raider is shaping up to be quite an interesting title featuring two vendor specific technologies(TressFX from AMD and VXAO from nVidia), however the latter will be a Windows 10 exclusive feature. This is not the first game to use both technologies from both sides of the camp, Grand Theft Auto V also used both PCSS, TXAA from Nvidia and CHS from AMD.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It is the sequel to the 2013 video game Tomb Raider, the reboot to the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider franchise. It was released for Xbox One and Xbox 360 in November 2015. Playstation owners will have to wait till holiday season to get their hands on the title.
