Google isn’t particularly adept at social network The search giant offers Google+, among other unpopular services, but if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again (as the saying goes). A number of images originating out of El Androide Libre suggest El Goog is hard at work on a social network focused on food? You post food pictures on your Instagram anyway, so why not do that on a social network dedicated entirely to the topic?
Tentatively known as Tablescape, Google’s new project is designed around a community “to make, share and discover amazing foodographs.” The business of taking pictures is so large that there’s even a catchy word associated with it. Foodographs. As in, “Hold on guys I just need to snap a quick foodograph.” That’s enough to make your grandparents shake theirs heads in confusion.
The alleged images of an early Tablescape build reveal plenty of information about the social network, such as the layout, features and even how to improve your food photography. Users will be able to like, comment and follow other popular foodographers, too. When you post a picture, you’ll be able to name the dish, what you thought of it, add a location and even add tags like #vegetarian, #vegas, #healthy and #naughty (?).
Beyond that, it doesn’t look particularly complicated; just another place to post your pictures while sharing your love of food. Places like Pinterest and Instagram have become hubs for food lovers, and Google apparently wants a piece of the pie. There’s a food pun for you. It’s unclear when, or even if, Tablescape will launch, but it has certainly whetted our appetites. There’s another.
