In a sad turn of event 2K Australia, the studio that gave us games like Borderlands Pre Sequel and Bioshock 2 has closed it doors with all his employees being possible laid off.
2K Canberra was the last major AAA-style studio operating out of Australia. Apparently the prohibitive cost of operating in Australia became the reason for closure.
In a statement to Kotaku, 2K Australia had this to say
We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.
This is indeed a sad turn of events where we lost one of the most creative AAA style studios which is a rarity these days.
A good luck to everyone effected.
