The Flame in the Flood Review
The Flame in the Flood is the new survival game by the Molasses flood. The team which bought to us games like Bioshock , Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band series. What separates The Flame in the Flood from other survival games is that this game has two different aspects. On one hand you have to keep an eye out for the health, hunger and hydration. On the other hand, you have a raft which is the only mode of transportation from one area to another.
The Flame in the Flood has a very clean and crisp graphics. The game plays like any other survival game where you can craft by collecting items from one area to another. You can craft new clothes by skinning rabbits. You can make spear traps to hunt down animals. The Flame in the Flood has an ending unlike any other survival game. Where in other survival games, there is no ending, you just have to progress through the game as much as you can.
The main protagonist is a girl scout along with her dog who travels from one area to another to gather resources in order to stay alive in this flood. And her only transport is a raft which you can upgrade from time to time. You can add storage to store items in the raft. You can add motors and rudder to make steering more easy in the currents. The one thing which I enjoyed the most in this game is how intense rowing can get in some parts. Especially when all of a sudden storm hits and you are panicking not to hit any debris or rocks. If you are careless with your raft or had a bad luck, then your raft’s health will go down to zero and you will drown and the game will be over.
The soundtrack does not suit the environment of the game at all. But I love it for some reason because it works in this game nicely.
I strongly recommend this game to anyone who is very much into the whole survival genre like 7 days to die, H1Z1, Don’t starve, DAYZ or Rust. I had a blast with it and I hope you enjoy it. I give this simple yet interesting survival game an 8 out of 10.
