At CES 2026, ASUS Republic of Gamers is stepping into spatial gaming with the ROG XREAL R1, a new pair of AR gaming glasses developed in partnership with XREAL. The device is positioned as a wearable large-screen alternative for PCs, consoles, and the ROG Ally, combining a high refresh rate display with lightweight, portable design.

The ROG XREAL R1 uses Sony 0.55-inch micro-OLED panels with a 1920×1080 resolution per eye and an industry-first 240Hz refresh rate for gaming glasses. ASUS claims the setup delivers a virtual screen size of up to 171 inches at a viewing distance of four meters, covering a 57-degree field of view.

Built for PCs, Consoles, and ROG Ally

A key part of the ROG XREAL R1 ecosystem is the ROG Control Dock, which provides DisplayPort 1.4 and dual HDMI 2.0 inputs. This allows users to switch between PCs and consoles while maintaining a single wearable display.

For portable gaming, the glasses connect directly to the ROG Ally over USB-C, enabling a plug-and-play experience with no additional setup. ASUS states that users can adjust virtual screen size and distance using onboard spatial processing, while still retaining full access to the Ally’s touchscreen controls.

High Refresh Rate and Low Latency Focus

The ROG XREAL R1 targets competitive and fast-paced gaming scenarios with an advertised 240Hz refresh rate and as low as 2–3ms motion-to-photon latency. The glasses support native 3 Degrees of Freedom (DoF), allowing the virtual display to be anchored in physical space or follow the user’s view.

This approach is intended to reduce motion discomfort while maintaining responsiveness during extended gaming sessions.

Adaptive Transparency and Spatial Audio

The AR glasses feature electrochromic lens technology with three levels of adjustable tint. The lenses can automatically darken when the user focuses on the virtual screen and become more transparent when looking away, adapting to changing lighting conditions.

Audio is handled through Sound by Bose technology, designed to deliver spatial awareness for gaming, including positional cues such as footsteps and environmental effects.

Availability

ASUS states that the ROG XREAL R1 is expected to ship globally in the first half of 2026. Pricing and India-specific availability have not yet been announced. The device will be showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.
