From their press release:
Today DreamHack is proud to announce our continued expansion, and the launch of DreamHack’s first event in Canada, which will take place August 12-14th in Montreal, Canada. The event will be hosted at Place Bonaventure, located centrally in Montreal. The event will feature the core DreamHack components, BYOC LAN party, international esports and the DreamExpo.“DreamHack Montreal represents our commitment and dedication to continue to grow the DreamHack phenonem and reach even more visitors at live events.” Said Marcus Lindmark, CEO of DreamHack, “We are tremendously excited to launch this event in the Summer, working together with many of the experienced crew from Lan ETS, and bring the DreamHack experience to some of the most passionate esports & gaming fans in the World in Canada.”“We are honored to be a part of DreamHack Canada and especially to start the adventure in Montreal.” Said Simon Marin, President of DreamHack Canada, “We want to bring the complete DreamHack experience in Canada and Montreal is a no-brainer as a first stop with its recognized LAN Party culture and massive BYOC attendance growth at Lan ETS since 2012. We are excited to bring the ultimate eSports experience on Canadian soil!”
The event will be hosted at Place Bonaventure for the first year, and DreamHack will aim to continue with an annual tradition starting with DreamHack Montreal 2016. When exploring different locations to continue expansion in North America, Montreal became a very obvious choice, due to both the proven gaming and LAN party culture in the city, but also the entire country of Canada, which is a chronically under-served esports market.
DreamHack Montreal will feature at least two major international esports tournaments, as well as activities for visitors across all titles in fighting games, PC games and console games. Alongside this there will the obvious BYOC LAN party for visitors to take in, Cosplay contents and more. All attendees are encouraged to help get involved and join the volunteer crew to help shape DreamHack Montreal to be what the visitors want it to be!
