The legendary Shinji Mikami is back with the sequel of the thrilling third-person survival horror video game , The Evil Within. Developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks , The Evil Within came out three years ago and gave players an intense and brutal experience . The Evil Within 2 is set to release on Friday the 13th (13th October), which is next week! This sequel has been hyped up by trailers and gameplay demos for the last few months at various events like E3 and Gamescom . Here is everything you need to know about The Evil Within 2.
Former detective ( and our personal favorite) Sebastian Castellanos is still haunted by eerie events that unfolded during the first game three years ago . He was dragged into STEM , a machine that connects human minds to an alternate nightmarish dimension ( creepy as hell) ,controlled by a single consciousness called the Core. With the aim of bringing the world “peace and order”, Mobius ,a corporation with unknown motives, created the STEM device. In the aftermath of the previous game’s events , Sebastian tries desperately to convince the police about his discovery but nobody believes him and he is dismissed from the police department. Frustrated , he tries to solve the case on his own and falls back into drinking .
However in the current scenario we see his former partner Juli Kidman returns to inform him that his daughter Lily, who died in a tragic house fire , is still alive but captured by Mobius as a test subject . The Evil Within 2 follows Sebastian as he travels to the city of Union , a STEM world created with Lily’s brain. He must now race against time to rescue Lily while unraveling the conspiracies of Mobius before this unstable universe collapses. On the other hand , his path is blocked by different killers who had made their mark in Union, as well as face his own personal fears and past traumas .
The story we’ve crafted for you is very compelling,” says Executive Producer Shinji Mikami . ” Each stage you’ll delve into is very unique. I hope people enjoy the game, and I encourage everyone to thoroughly explore the world.”
Setting & Gameplay
Mikami’s passion for survival horror seeped into every pore of The Evil Within . It has been so long since we had a survival horror game of this kind . Its sequel, though, is not at all what we anticipated. Bigger in scale and scope, players are now free to explore huge areas of Union, do side quests along with the main one, in the new world that is once again overrun with terror. Played from a third-person perspective, there are three difficulty modes-Casual, Survival, and Nightmare. The player’s are equipped with “The Communicator”, an item which helps to highlight the objectives, resources, and enemies featured in the game’s world. It will also reveal Resonance points, which provides hints regarding what had happened in the world of Union. Players need to explore the area freely for completing side objectives and scouting for resources, which is much needed as they are scarce. The game also features a crafting system, in which players can gather resources to craft new items . The Green Gel, as you can recall from the first game, can be used to upgrade Sebastian’s abilities : health, stealth, combat, recovery and athleticism. Weapons can also be customized using the weapon parts players collected through exploring Union which is much required.
Union is overrun with these zombie-like creatures, but Sebastian can choose to confront them head-on or sneak around them. He can also do stealth takedown on those which block his path to the nearest safehouse. This presents a very different experience, as in the first game you did not have any option to avoid combat and that took away a lot of resources. Players can also pull off some devastating takedowns with Sebastian’s knife making it a far more interesting gameplay.
The game also paves way for intense encounters with horrifying mini bosses . In the demo we got a glimpse of one such mini boss – The Giggling Guardian . As you can see, it gives you quite the scare as you try to escape from it in the first encounter and later engage in one on one combat . A recent trailer also introduced Stefano Valentini, The Evil Within 2’s main antagonist. The demented photographer has complete control over the world you explore, capable of filling it with horrific monsters.
Friday the 13th
Now that covers what Bethesda released so all that’s left is to hype till Friday arrives and then engage in an epic and terrifying adventure . Will you face adversity head on, or sneak through the shadows to survive?
