Corsair is a busy company. Over the years they’ve been busier – foraying into newer territories. But I feel Corsair’s root are in their cases and power supplies, and memory – three things that lunged them into a significant name in the market. If we look back at the last year for Corsair, we will see for computer system enclosures (things we call cabinets, or cases), Corsair has revamped their lineup significantly. Prior to this we had the Obsidian 800D sitting on top of their product stack, an age old design that was too long in the tooth for its expandability and features. Similar thing happened with their budget cases as well, the Carbide 400R and 500R were good cabinets in their own right, but the 300R and 200R and 100R represented an evolution of the same design. So if a user didn’t like the 400R/500R, there was little incentive for him to consider the stripped down versions of the same. Thankfully, Corsair paid heed to the market demands and produced two updates to their case lines.

The Obsidian cases received two new members – the 750D, and the 900D. The 750D is a replacement of the old 700D, while the 900D replaces the 800D. With these two cases, Corsair also redesigned the Obsidian lineup in both internal and external aspects. Also worth noting that both the cases have ample liquid cooling support. One may think that the increasing demand for cases with native watercooling support prompted for this change, but Corsair specifically states that these cases can be used in an all-aircooled build as well, something that many users had complained about the 700D/800D. The gargantuan 900D is clearly the bolder step among the two, challenging competition from boutique cabinet manufacturers like Caselabs, and placing it in niche territory. Corsair doesn’t seem to be perturbed by this fact though and believe that if you need a completely decked out build, you will consider the 900D.

The Spec line of cases are on a completely opposite spectrum. The need for a new lineup was inevitable here, to diversify Corsair’s existing lineup and providing users with more choices if not anything else. The aesthetics have been upped to a more gaming-centric, edgy design and LED fans now come as default (LED variations of their AF120/140). Plus we have slightly shifted location for the top fans, possibly allowing for closed loop liquid coolers (but the little space may not allow installation). We have three mid-towers with almost similar design and feature-sets. The middle hard disc cages are removed, allowing longer graphic card installations. Corsair has also made sure that the side panel windows are default for all three cases which is a nice step towards allowing people to showcase their builds, another trend that is on the rise.

Today we’ll go through the features of these five cases one by one. This is not a review, but just a feature overview.

The room you need when you’re getting serious.

Nine expansion slots are just the beginning. You also have the room to install up to 10 drives. Thinking outside the box for your storage? There are four USB ports on the brushed aluminum front panel.

Your system. Your cooling.

The three included Corsair AF140L high-airflow 140mm intake and exhaust fans are custom engineered to deliver excellent airflow with less unnecessary turbulence and noise. And if you’re not stopping there, you can mount up to eight fans, with room for dual radiators on the bottom, front, and top.

Take control of your storage.

No two custom high-performance PCs are alike, and our modular drive mounting system respects this. There are four separate mounting locations for the drive cages, and if you’re moving to 100% solid-state, you can remove the 3.5” cages entirely and use the four side-mounted 2.5” cages.

Like all Corsair cases, Obsidian Series 750D is designed for fast, neat, and satisfying builds. The side panels and expansion slots use thumb screws, and storage installation is tool-free. A clever center-post standoff holds the motherboard in place while you secure it, and the dust filters are easily accessible and removable. Our innovative cable routing system has multiple cutouts with rubber grommets for superior airflow and a cleaner look, and the CPU backplate cutout lets you install or upgrade your CPU cooling without removing the motherboard. In short, the 750D makes assembly, upgrades, and maintenance quick and easy.

Final Words:

All these five cases represent Corsair’s stride towards making their cabinet portfolio diverse and feature-heavy. They now have cases as budget as the Spec-01 to the niche, gigantic 900D – covering every market segment in between. No other cabinet manufacturer has this dense and distributed lineup as of now, and though that fact may change in near future, Corsair will be at advantage of introducing something first as they can do revisions first and release updates first as well. With tilt-shifts to this industry being fairly regular, steps like these are refreshing. The more options, the better for us consumers. Stay tuned for a full review, soon.
