AMD 400 Series GPUs To Launch At Computex

Yesterday, we reported about the leaks regarding the specs and performance of Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 chips. Today, we found out about various sources who claim about AMD 400 Series GPUs To Launch At Computex. Yes, you heard it right. Long awaited Polaris 10 will show its true colours on the stage of Computex this year. Expectations with Polaris rose a bar more after Nvidia’s event where they unveiled the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. Price to Performance ratio of these Nvidia cards is very decent considering the current generation of GPUs.

Numerous speculations of AMD’s Polaris based GPUs launching in Q4 were made. Leaks have been surfaced from various sources according to which, press from around the world are being invited to an event on June 1 where AMD will unveil the new Radeon 400 series based on the Polaris architecture. The 400 series GPUs are sort of mid-end cards by AMD. As for the performance, Polaris 10 roughs out the R9 390X.

The leaked specifications we reported yesterday’s are as follows :

AMD Graphics Roadmap for 2016-2018

AMD released their roadmap for their Radeon GPUs at the Capsaicin event earlier this year. The Roadmap  confirms that Polaris 11 and 10 will indeed replace their entire existing lineup for 2016, and the replacement for the Enthusiast-class cards, currently their Fury lineup, the Vega, will launch in 2017 with the HBM2 memory.AMD 400 Series GPUs To Launch At Computex - TechARX

They also confirm that the mysterious Navi architecture with the “NextGen” memory will launch in 2018.   Polaris 10 and 11 will feature support for HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.3, with HEVC Encode/Decode ability, Gen 4 Graphics Core Next uArch and built on the  14nm FinFET process by Samsung. While Polaris 10 is expected to make up the 490 and 480 GPUs, the Polaris 11 is expected to take the Entry-class and mainstream GPUs and will also power their low-power notebook GPUs.

AMD is already making claims that Polaris offers much better performance than Nvidia’s popular graphics cards. AMD has fired clear shots at Nvidia because Nvidia has traditionally been highly dominant in the mid-range and high-end segment of the market where margins are fatter. And that’s not all, AMD says that Polaris represents the most revolutionary jump in performance by the company. AMD’s Fury X graphics cards managed to grab back about 1% market share from Nvidia despite having been in acutely short supply. Polaris should be quite opposite to that. At this point, the jury is still divided on whether AMD’s Polaris or Nvidia’s Pascal will steal the show when the graphics cards hit the market a couple of months from now.

Polaris 10 : Reportedly Surpasses $250 Cards

Polaris 10 will sport 256bit of a GDDR5/GDDR5X memory interface. The actual GPUs based on this cheap will feature 8GB of VRam. It also features 32 GCN 4.0 compute units for a total of 2048 stream processors, the same number found in AMD’s current R9 380X. However, Polaris 10 cards are reportedly significantly faster and will deliver R9 390X/390 class performance. Leaks also pit the MSRP at less than $299 at launch.AMD-Polaris-16

As for the latest leak, the GPU is rated at 5.5 TFLOPS, which is 0.1 TFLOPS less than that of the 2816 SP R9 290X. An impressive feat considering the 290X is a ~290W card with 37.5% more GCN stream processors and a memory interface that’s twice as wide. The card is also reportedly rated at less than 150W. According to a previous leak from Benchlife Polaris 10 graphics cards will be rated at around 110W-135W depending on the GPU configuration and clock speeds. Interestingly, according to VCZ this 5.5 TFLOP GPU is not even a desktop class chip but a mobility variant. This would bring R9 390X/390 class performance to notebooks.

We received the exact same specifications just few days ago. Although it was noted that those are specifications for mobile GPUs, so you may want to take this into consideration.

A 5.5 TFLOPS rating would put Polaris 10’s GPU clock speed at around 1350Mhz, this is a drastic improvement. Polaris 10 will be more powerful than a single R9 380x if it’s true. This is unsurprisingly thanks largely to the brand new FinFET manufacturing process which is capable of significantly higher clock speeds without sacrificing leakage. This, as we’ve seen, has also allowed Nvidia to boost clock speeds on its Pascal GPUs by a similar margin. AMD 400 Series GPUs To Launch At Computex – this Computex will be a battleground.

AMD Polaris 10 and 11 specs will win the hearts of the budget gamers if the leaks are true. After Nvidia’s reveal, expectations have risen a bar more. AMD 400 Series GPUs To Launch At Computex and enthusiast/gamers are gearing up for the event. The competition will be tough this year, so hold onto your seats as its high time we get some more news on this.
